Pick Me Up 'Puckleduster' teaser number six

Today is your last chance to test your horror movie knowledge at Pick Me Up to win my new screen-print 'Oh the Horror!'.  I'm going to be there from ten this morning until six.  Find me and tell me fifteen of the eighteen films loosely referenced and you can take a print home for nothing.

This one's another tricky one unless you're a big folk horror fan.  The additional [and fucking ace] quote should help a bit too...

Pick Me Up 'Puckleduster' teaser number five

Another teaser from my new print 'Oh the Horror' and with the additional quote this one is a big clue as to one of the trickier references; tricky specifically because straight razors feature in a LOT of Giallo films.  I even spotted one recently in Suspiria in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.

As I mentioned yesterday the first person to tell me [in person] fifteen of the eighteen horror films referenced in my print either tomorrow or Friday will win a print.  So get along to Pick Me Up and even if you suck at horror movies you can make up for it by getting a straight razor tattoo'd on your neck.  WIN WIN.

Pick Me Up 'Puckleduster' teaser number four

I've been so busy I haven't been able to do quite as many teasers for my new 'Oh the Horror' prints as I was hoping to but here's another that didn't make the final screen-print.

Make sure you come along to the 'Puckleduster' tattoo parlour at Pick Me Up and see what Puck Collective have been up to; there's some stunning prints available and you can get a temporary tattoo while you're there or just hang out and listen to Kyuss.  I'm working there on Thursday and Friday if you want to say hi and you can try and spot the eighteen horror films referenced in my print. The first person who can name fifteen of the films directly to me gets a free print!

Pick Me Up 'Puckleduster' teaser number two.

Here's another teaser from my 'Oh The Horror!' prints for Pick me Up which opens on Thursday at Somerset House.  I'll be posting a few of these illustrations up over the next few days, some that made it and others that didn't.  I wanted to draw objects and signifiers from my favourite horror films and create an elaborate poker card hierarchy for them with four different horror film types (folk horror, satanic/pagan horror, slasher and possession) representing the suits (with their own symbols as well[!]) but it all got a bit convoluted and the overall design suffered. I may still make a zine from the concept if I get moment.

This early one didn't make the final cut as it's too specific to the film and also I wanted to avoid illustrating people.  I wanted the final print to reference horror movies but in such a way that they weren't so explicitly tied to one film and would also appeal to the occasional horror film fan, greasy fifteen year old metaler and casual serial killer alike. I struggled with signifiers from this particular film as well very nearly drawing a stuffed crocodile but deciding it was a little too obscure even by my standards.

I'm keeping quiet about the actual films for now; I want to have a competition to see who can spot the eighteen references in the final print.  Anyway I'm rambling.  Come to Pick Me Up and visit the Puck Collective 'Puckleduster' tattoo parlour.  It's going to be some devilish fun.

Secret 7" exhibition

Secret 7" is back starting this weekend and I've contributed another sleeve to the awesome event/worthy cause raising money for Art Against Knives.  The private view was last night and there are even more sleeves than last year and some wonderful artwork from the likes of David Shrigley, Pete Fowler, Luke Drozd, Gilbert and George, Felt Mistress and hundreds more besides.  More info here.

I'll post up my sleeve artwork after the sale weekend but in the meantime here are a few of my favourites.  Pete Fowler and the Heavy Pencil gang were in attendance playing plenty of awesome records too including Black Sabbath, Can, Baris Manco, The Rattles and this doozy.

Boris

This odious fucking toad has been leering at me from the fridge door every morning for about a month now so I thought it high-time I did something about it before someone mistakes us for being Tories or something.

Pick Me Up 2013

The graphic arts exhibition Pick Me Up is back at Somerset House from the 18th of April and I'm going to be there as a member of Puck Collective

Here's a little taster of the horror film inspired illustrations I've been working on.  This one didn't make the final print but it seems a shame to waste it.

Woody Allen linocut print

Today I printed my linotcut of Woody Allen; another in my series of film director inspired linocuts following on from Stanley Kubrick a few months ago.  Here are some process photos and the print is available now in my shop along with Stanley Kubrick.  You can buy both at a reduced price as well here.  Please note the attention to detail in my choice of baren.

Lots more directors to follow but first I have some pressing Pick Me Up matters to attend to.
