'The Lycanthrope Sweats'

Something scary for Halloween anyone?

I did this a few weeks ago and it never really quite worked out. When I set out to do it I only had a vague idea of what I wanted and as it developed I ended up with the werewolf and the man on different bits of paper which meant when I finally tried to sync them up there was a little too much going on at the parts where they cross-over. It's bad design frankly...

The werewolf is a little too there as well for what I was trying to achieve.

Oh well - happy Halloween! Watch this - old photos of kids dressed up for Halloween back in the Thirties - disturbing! The music is terrific too - if anyone knows what wobbly Wurlitzer version of 'Fossils' is playing at four minutes in please can they tell me - I'm obsessed with it.

'The Day Texas Sank to the Bottom of the Sea' sweatshirts now available

As I mentioned a while ago I did an illustration for Get a Grip screen-printing studios who have just printed it on to sweatshirts. They look bloody great even if I do say so myself (I can take no credit for the screen-printing what-so-ever) and are ridiculously inexpensive too. They didn't print that many so if you want one you should buy one quick. Click here for more info.

'Ghosts of Industrial Oakland'

For a while I've been meaning to do something with some photos I took in and around Oakland a few years ago. This is the first of the series although I'm unsure of whether I'm entirely happy with the ghosts - maybe I should stick to bears.

The plan is to do a set of three prints potentially with ink washes instead of the two or three layers you can see here - I'm a sucker for punishment...

'The Wing and a Prayer One'

Here's another record collecting comic for you this time inspired by the adventures of a vinyl obsessive called Lee who's part of a collective called 'Eclectic Mud' who put on nights in and around Edinburgh.

'Shogun Assassin' print

Taken from my contribution for 'The Film One' zine I decided to make my 'Shogun Assassin' illustration into a small run of giclee prints. Click here for more information.

'The Day Texas Sank to the Bottom of the Sea'

Birmingham based screen-printing studio Get a Grip recently got in touch about collaborating on a run of sweat shirts in time for the Supersonic Festival. I came up with an illustration loosely inspired by the Micah P Hinson song 'The Day Texas Sank to the Bottom of the Sea' - a long time favourite of mine which has always conjured up some pretty fantastical images in my mind so I ran with it and came up with this fairly restrained piece all things considered.

There's been some technical issues which have meant delays on the sweatshirt but watch this space. I can't wait to see the final product and we're hoping to print some paper variants too. Given my previous contribution to the Supersonic zine and the fact I'll be present at the festival vicariously through Get a Grip who will be doing screen-printing workshops there I sort of feel like I should've been offered a free ticket and carried around on someones back for the duration quaffing lager pop from a luxurious golden jewel-studded skull. Oh well.

'The Charity Shop Dick One'

Not the catchiest of titles all things considered but I'm trying not to get too bogged down with the finer details in these record collecting based comic strips. This one happened to me about ten years ago in Cheam Village of all places - Tony Hancock would probably approve of the fella's miserly ways. I certainly didn't; though in truth I think the vast majority of my anger was vented on my own behalf for not being able to buy the fine selection of Mojo classics he'd just nicked rather than the charity shops loss of earnings.

The Print Space have just done a small feature on me in their blog - click here to read it. It features an exclusive look at a collaboration I was recently involved in with Birmingham based screen-printing studio Get a Grip - more to follow.

IF - Round - 'Future Bear'

In the absence of anything more finished to blog about behold - FUTURE BEAR. He's like a regular bear but from the future sent back in time to steal all your pic-a-nic baskets. Picnics are going to be banned in 2082 - just saying.

I have some big proper things happening but I don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet. Oh and don't look at future bear too long - you have been warned.

'The Giant Blue Bear of Portola' limited edition print

A week or so later than promised 'The Giant Blue Bear of Portola' prints are now available from the shop. Click here to buy one. Or if you want the t-shirt instead click here instead. Or perhaps you could buy both if you're feeling flush? I finally got my hands on the t-shirt and I'm really happy with the print quality - the blue really punches which was the most important thing for me.

I think by now you're all fairly familiar with the giant spirit bear series but just in case you can see them all on my new website here.

'The Scott Walker One'

This is the first in an occasional series of comic strips I'm doing inspired by the wonders of collecting records. First up is a collaboration between myself and a fella that goes by the name of Paul Bareham - he runs the ace 'Island of Terror' blog and featured in 'The Music One'.

If you have fascinating or indeed mundane stories of high (and low) adventure in the realms of vinyl collecting get in touch via mr.naga@gmail.com and you too could have unflattering illustrations of your face and body plastered across the internet for all to see.
